• Larkin's Map of Sligo 1819

This is a single sheet reproduction of the map featured in Mapping Sligo into the 19th century.

William Larkin’s map of Co. Sligo was published in 1819 for The Grand Jury.  Begun perhaps as early as 1803 it was the first detailed pre-Ordnance Survey map of the county.

Only three printed copies are known, British Library, National Library of Ireland and one in private posession.  The original, measuring under six feet by over five feet, was intended for public display and shows physical features, roads, houses, religious buildings and some antiquities.

In 2011 Dr. Arnold Horner, UCD, published the large-format book about the map and about previous mappings of Co. Sligo, many of which are reproduced in colour.  That book contains the full map in sections at a reduction to 70% from the British Library copy.  Separately published is a reduction of the map to 50% on a single glossy sheet. And available to order here.

The original was engraved on six plates which do not merge perfectly and it has proved impossible to do so with the reproductions.
