Reformation 1517–2017 in an Irish context.

The year 2017 marked the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. To mark this Quincentenary, a symposium took place on 17–18 February 2017 in Trinity College Dublin and focused on the central notion of freedom in Luther’s thought and in Christian life, as well as on some of the post-Reformation legacies and developments, including the Reformation’s impact on Ireland. With the resounding success of the symposium, which was attended by an unexpectedly large number of people, the idea then arose to publish the proceedings and to invite some extra articles. While not all invited academics were able to contribute—especially on the Reformation’s legacy in the development of music, philosophy and the natural sciences—we are delighted to include five extra articles and two ample epilogues from our pastors.
