An Illustrated History 1700-1960.
Over three centuries, the Navan Road has been quietly transformed. From its origins as open countryside on the edge of Dublin, it evolved into a landscape marked by imposing religious houses and confinement institutions in the nineteenth century, before emerging in the twentieth century as a confident, upwardly mobile suburban community. Within its streets and fields unfolded stories of faith and power, discipline and domesticity, ambition and belonging. This is not simply a history of buildings and boundaries. It is the story of how national forces — political upheaval, religious authority, social reform and modernisation — shaped one seemingly ordinary suburb, and how that suburb, in turn, reflects Ireland’s wider journey. Through the intimate lens of the Navan Road, this book reveals a compelling microcosm of a nation in transition.
